Jake, although a career firefighter, found a love for not only helping the citizens of the State of California as a firefighter, but found a passion in computers and software as well.  When Jake promoted to Fire Captain he transferred into the Emergency Command Center as a Dispatch Captain.  Jake became a technical expert in CalCAD, spreadhsheets and databases working to create forms to simplify the reporting process across many disciplines for CalFire.  Jake was awarded the Lewis A. Moran award and was the only Captain to ever receive this award.  The Lewis A. Moran Award is the highest honor bestowed on an employee through the Director's Annual Recognition Program and is awarded for superior performance that has significantly exceeded, in quality and quantity, that which is usually expected of an employee.  

When CalFire transitioned to Altaris CAD Jake was again in the forefront with his expertise in all faucets of Altaris CAD.  Through his dedication he was self taught in database building and GIS Mapping and again became the go to person for his technical expertise.  Jake was the lead instructor for Altaris CAD at Cal Fires' Academy in Ione, California and sat on numerous committees.  

Jake created area response maps for Mid-Coast Fire Brigade on the Big Sur Coast.  This was no easy feat as this area had previously not been mapped.  Cutting trails and utilizing GPS coordinates every road, structure, gate and water source was accurately mapped for responding emergency and medical services.  The information Jake obtained was utilized by Cal Fire for a wildfire response and evaction map.  The first of its kind in the area.

Jake created accurate maps that are included in the Incident Action Plan for emergency services planning for the Big Sur International Marathon and for a massive fuel reduction project in the Mid-Coast Fire Brigade response area.
